“A World of Wisdom” Wordfind

We’re about to experience a senior boom! While we’re celebrating Older Americans Month in the U.S., let’s also consider the impact of global aging.

The National Institute on Aging has just reWorld of Wisdom Wordfind.inddleased a new report, An Aging World: 2015, which projects that by the year 2050, approximately 17 percent of the world’s population will be age 65 and older. Says NIA director Dr. Richard J. Hodes, “Older people are a rapidly growing proportion of the world’s population. People are living longer, but that does not necessarily mean that they are living healthier. The increase in our aging population presents many opportunities and also several public health challenges that we need to prepare for.”

This truly is a global challenge and opportunity, and we can all learn from each other. Says the NIA’s John Haaga, “We are seeing population aging in every country in every part of the world. Many countries in Europe and Asia are further along in the process, or moving more rapidly, than we are in the United States. Since population aging affects so many aspects of public life—acute and long-term health care needs; pensions, work and retirement; transportation; housing—there is a lot of potential for learning from each other’s experience.”
